Founded in 1913 by the Science Teachers’ Bureau, the Boston Children’s Museum is the second oldest children’s museum in the world and one of the few that maintain a collection. Designed for both children and families, the Museum exhibits focus on science, culture, environmental awareness, health & fitness, and the arts, emphasizing hands-on engagement and learning through experience, and employing play as a tool to spark the inherent creativity, curiosity, and imagination of children.

The Children's Museum of New Hampshire offers opportunities for children and families to explore art, science, and culture through dozens of activities and exhibits. Among these are the Thinkering and Steam Innovation Labs; Dino Detective; Music Matrix & Sound Watch; Naturalist's Study; Cave Explorers; and Post Office. The recently re-opened Dover Adventure Playground features a life-size flat-bottomed vintage gundalow boat; a net climber; swings and slides; a 3-story Garrison tower; a 1,200 pound, 3x8 foot climbable Alewife granite fish sculpture; a splash pad; musical instruments; and a life-sized “whale's tail” sculpture perched on the roof of the Dover Pool. Regularly scheduled special events take place throughout the year, including the Dover Mini Maker Faire; Teddy Bear Clinic + Picnic; Toddlerfest; 5K Road Race + Kid-Venture Course; and Earth Day Celebration; among others. The museum is open for limited play session slots: Wed-Sat 9:00am - 12:00pm and 1:00pm - 4:00pm, and Tues and Sun 9:00am - 12:00pm. Visitors are required to reserve a timed session online.

Reserving a date and time online is free, and visitors still pay the discounted Library Member admission as usual when they arrive at the museum.

The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, located in Amherst, MA, is the first sizable institution dedicated to picture books and picture book illustrations from around the world. Its collection encompasses more than 11,000 objects—7,300 of which are illustrations—including art by Eric Carle, Maurice Sendak, and Leo Lionni. On the 40,000 sq. ft. premises are three art galleries, an art studio, a theater, picture book and scholarly libraries, and a gift shop.

The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center, located in Concord, NH, is dedicated to the two astronauts who came from the granite state—Christa McAuliffe and Alan Shepard. The museum offers a range of permanent and changing exhibits that focus on astronomy, aviation, earth and space science, including full-sized replicas of Mercury 7 and Mercury-Redstone rockets, a 1956 XF8U-3 Crusader jet, and items from Star Trek movies, a planetarium, and an observatory. There is a museum shop and café on the premises.

This pass admits up to 4 individuals to the exhibit galleries free of charge. There is an additional charge for Planetarium shows. 

The Discovery Center recommends reserving tickets for all guests, including library pass holders. This can be done at www.starhop.com/tickets. Library Pass users should select the “Library Pass or Reciprocal Membership Adult” option for general admission for up to 4 people and the “Admit One” option for planetarium shows and should still bring this pass to present at the front desk. 

Fitted face masks are required for guests over the age of 3 in our planetarium theater. Disposable masks are available for guest use.

Directions and Parking:

From north or south: I-93 to exit 15E (I-393) in Concord, NH.

Take exit 1 and follow the brown recreation signs to the Discovery Center parking lot.

From east: Rt. 4W to I-393W, take exit 1 and follow the signs to the Discovery Center parking lot.

Look for the 92’ tall Mercury-Redstone Rocket at the entrance. Parking is FREE!

When you arrive at the Museum, stop at the Box Office to exchange your library pass and purchase your Exhibit Halls tickets at the discounted rate. If you have any questions or would like to reserve your Exhibit Halls passes in advance to avoid waiting in line the day of your visit, please call 617-723-2500 (9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. daily).

If you are unable to show your Library confirmation on a phone, you may print out a copy using the link in the confirmation email or request a paper copy from the library.

The New England Aquarium is home to thousands of aquatic animals, from the giant Pacific octopus to Northern fur seals to little blue penguins. They offer a wide range of exhibits, including a shark and ray touch tank and the Giant Ocean Tank, a four-story coral reef featuring hundreds of Caribbean animals. In addition, they have an IMAX theatre and run whale watch boat excursions in partnership with Boston Harbor Cruises from April through November.

In 2018, they took up residence in the Seifert Performing Arts Center in Salem, built the previous year. Among the themed concerts that allow them to present well-known pieces of classical repertory, they typically schedule Holiday Pops concerts in December.

Located within Odiorne Point State Park in Rye, NH, the Seacoast Science Center has been providing educational experiences on behalf of New Hampshire State Parks since 1992. The center includes hands-on science exhibits (undersea exploration to marine debris), live animal exhibits which feature creatures that live in the rapidly changing Gulf of Maine ecosystem; and many special events, like “Music-by-the-Sea” concerts and “Sippin' for Seals” (dancing and drinks to support the Marine Mammal rescue Program).

Each pass admits up to 2 adults and 4 children at 50% off admission. The Seacoast Science Center is located inside Odiorne State Park - however, this pass does not include admission to the State Park. 

Present this pass at the Park toll booth. Between April - September a parking fee of $4 per adult (12+) and $2 per child (6-11) may be imposed. Pass holders should purchase tickets in advance to ensure entry due to limited capacity and scheduled visitation.

During winter months (November 1 - February 15) when the Center is closed during the week to the general public, patrons may still visit by calling the Center 2 hours in advance - the Center will open by appointment just for them!

Open 7 days a week, the SEE Science Center in Manchester, NH, is an interactive learning center established to promote the understanding, enjoyment and achievements of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Visitors (ages 3+) encounter hands-on exhibits covering topics such as forces, light, sound electricity, simple machines and more; daily demonstrations; and the LEGO® Millyard Project (Manchester's Amoskeag Millyard as it might have looked circa 1900—including City Hall and the Notre Dame bridge—and all built with commercially-available LEGO bricks).
